Selecting your Perfect Dress

Congratulations, you’re engaged! The moment you’ve been waiting for is finally here. If you’re anything like I was, the minute the engagement ring slides onto your finger planning mode commences. The list of to-dos can become immediately overwhelming. Instead of letting all the to-dos turn stressful, focus on the fun each stage of planning will bring. For starters… picking out your dress!

Wedding dress shopping started for me at an early age, when my mother and I would bring home bridal magazines that were tossed excitedly into the cart in the grocery store checkout line. I was convinced, when my husband was still just a mere figment of my imagination, that I would have a grand Vera Wang ballgown. No exceptions.

As my time came, though, I fell in love with the variety of styles available from so many talented designers. It turns out that the giant gown of my dreams was not the best candidate for a dreamy garden wedding. A grand Manhattan ballroom? Sure. A Southern California rose garden in September? So much fabric. So hot. So many grass stains.

I say this not to discourage anyone from the gown they have dreamed of their entire lives, but it is important to keep an open mind, consider your aesthetic, and make a decision based on what will make the most sense for your amazing day.

xoxo
